How often should a sewing machine be serviced?
Sewing machines and sergers should be professionally serviced every year for those who sew regularly. For those who don’t sew regularly your machine should be serviced every 2 years but no more than 3 years to prevent damage. Remember, a sewing machine is a piece of machinery with moving parts that interact. All machine manufacturers recommend regular maintenance by a qualified technician, and we encourage you to have this done because it can catch any minor problem and keep the machine performing optimally. A good service adjusts tension and timing in a regular service, as well as cleaning areas of the machine that you cannot reach without taking the machine completely apart. Simply cleaning out the lint and oiling the machine yourself is not the same as having the machine properly serviced by a professional
When is the best time of year to do regular service on my machine?
The last two weeks of December to early January is a great time to service your machine. Christmas projects are finished and you are spending time with family and friends. We currently have very short wait times and if you bring your machine in now you will have it back in 1 week from Chilliwack or Burnaby Stores. Surrey currently has 2 – 3 day turnaround. The next best time is while you are on vacation.
