Million Pillowcase Challenge: Tom’s Sewing Centre & Countryfolk Fabric are supporting American Patchwork & Quilting in challenging quilters, sewers and crafters to help them reach their goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities. Bring in a pillowcase on Sep 7 or come in and sew on that day. We will guide you through making a pillowcase if you have never made one before. So let’s get out all our fun bright coloured fabrics and see how many pillowcases we can make. For every completed pillowcase you will be entered in a draw for prizes. All pillowcases will be donated to the Christmas Bureau.

Sisterhood Retreats Embroidery Club: This is a great series of classes this semester. The themes for the next three months are: Sisterhood – pillows, wine tote and notebook covers; Christmas – Ornaments/tags, Gift Bags and a 3D snowman; and Travel – Slippers, Travel Bag and a Luggage Tag. These projects are created with a combination of in the Hoop EMB projects and Sewing to create the finished project (please note that this is not an “in the hoop” projects only class – there is sewing involved to finish off most projects). Learn a few new techniques, practice ones you know, create wonderful and useful projects for your home or to give away as gifts for Christmas or other special occasions. Each month at least 1 project can be done in a 4 x 4 hoop but some projects need an 8” x 11” hoop. This club is a great way for the beginner or the experienced embroiderer to become more familiar with their embroidery machine.

Sew 4 Home Makers Janome Club Project #4: Tufted Floor Pillow: Get ready to go 3D! If you’re only willing to attempt flat projects, you’re missing out on all kinds of fun. You’ll learn to love dimensional sewing when you create your own patchwork and tufted floor cushion. Put your feet up in DIY style. This is the fourth project in the Sew 4 Home Club and it is featuring the AcuFeed™ Flex Fabric Feeding System. Techniques taught are the ninepatch top is made up of half square triangles, four patch units, and hourglass units, make and attach piping, build an expertly tufted box. Hoopsister Sisterhood Quilt: This spectacular two-color quilt can be embroidered in 5” – 9” block sizes. This quilt only requires two fabrics and two threads. Learn to work with HoopSisters’ famous battilizer, a stabilizer/batting base, to easily create a quilt like no other, all with an embroidery machine. Each month learn different embroidery techniques to master these embroidery quilt blocks. At the end, learn HoopSisters awesome finishing technique for a fully-quilted on the embroidery machine look. This quilt is shown with the optional border.

Kimber Cuties Fall Table Topper: Lets create a festive look for fall. Love this table topper and how versatile it can be – just by changing the fabric combination. Go from cute and playful to something more classy, totally reflective of your decor. In class we will use both a sewing machine and Embroidery machine with the Edge Cutter making an appearance. Some techniques that we will be learning piecing by machine, in-the-hoop applique, rehooping and centering. Don’t have an Embroidery machine but would like to join the class, that’s okay, you can add the applique with a sewing machine as well.

Match Game I Spy: We make this project using pairs of squares. They can be fun kid prints, bright colours, and cool patterns. This quilt is two games in one. Kids can play I Spy or find the matching blocks. You need 60 pairs of 5 inch squares. We trade in class so it is very easy to make up the 60 pairs. Using your computer effectively with your embroidery machine: Learn how to file on your computer. How to set up your internet to ask where to file your downloads. How to format and safely remove your USB Stick. How to save your downloads in your file system. How to work with a split screen. How to use your USB stick in your embroidery machine. Each student needs to have a working computer, USB stick and a mouse.

Delectable Mountains – Buzz Saw: Using the Delectable Mountains technique, this modified version looks very difficult. Surprise! It’s not. Scrappy or planned, you can make as many blocks as you want for any sized quilt. Each buzz saw takes 4 blocks but maybe there are other arrangements to try. I made 48 blocks to make a 45 x 60 quilt before borders. Great lap size.
