Here is our new list of classes and clubs that will run for July – August at which time another list will be available.

We are starting the season with a “Class Launch” in the Surrey store.  Surrey will have their class launch on Tues June 24 at 1:00pm.  Join us as we go over all the great classes running for summer.  It’s a good time to see the samples, ask questions and register for classes.  Drop in to Countryfolk anytime and see class samples.

Sign up for classes by Sat June 28 at 5:00pm and receive 10% off classes, clubs excluded.

Cake Therapy

Cake Therapy and Beyond: We are starting a whole new Cake Therapy.  If you’ve been to Cake Therapy in the past this will be a whole new concept with a whole new line up of projects.  If you haven’t already attended Cake Therapy, then it’s time you did and find out what you are missing.  All we are going to tell you is it takes place once a month at both stores and there are NO FEES for these sessions, but there will be cake!  And of course laughter, friends, coffee and tea!  What quilter doesn’t need a little “Therapy”, so sign up today to reserve your spot.

Quilt Block Challenge

Quilt Block Challenge: In January we started a monthly quilt block challenge and due to its great success we will be continuing.  Each month come in to the store and pick up your 5″ charm square and make a 12.5″ unfinished quilt block using this fabric somewhere in the block.  The block needs to be handed in by the last day of the month.  Over the next month all the customers in the store will have a chance to vote on the blocks.  The viewer’s choice will win a $25 gift certificate, we will also have a random draw winner for a $10 gift certificate.   Block must be pieced and can contain appliqué or embroidery.  All quilt blocks will be donated to make charity quilts.

Win Fabric for a Year: We have decided to continue our win fabric for a year contest as the charities have been so thrilled to receive the quilts and have raised hundreds of dollars auctioning them off.  Create a quilt in the year 2014 by Sat Oct 14 and enter to win fabric for a year.  See rules in the store. At the end of our Contest we will hold a quilt trunk show to give everyone a chance to see the amazing entries that are donated.  Random draw winner will receive $100 gift certificate/ month for 12 months, viewers choice winner will win $50 gift certificate/ month for 12 months.

 

 

Pillow Case Day

Pillow Case Day! :Are you looking for a fun way to use up some of your stash while helping others? We will be holding a free, one day pillowcase making session, where store staff will lead you through the steps of creating a fast and easy pillowcase. We are hoping that you will want to stitch one or more to donate to a local charity and or Children’s Hospital. We suggest that you use children’s prints or funky brights for the ones you will be donating. We will also be continuing to collect pillowcases for our next delivery to Children’s Hospital this summer as they are in need of more pillowcases.  Bring along a potluck dish to share.

Square in a Square Club

Square in a Square Club: Jodi Burrows wanted to find an easy way to create amazing quilt blocks so she created the square in a square ruler system. Come and learn new simple ways to make quilt blocks. Find out how simple it can be to put together a variety of perfect quilt block. You can join this club any month and learn this great technique. We make a different block each month. Join at any time!

Day Retreat

Day Retreats/ UFO Days

Would you like to spend the day in the company of other quilters, away from the distractions at home? Then you need to sign up for one of our Day Retreats. We will provide a friendly work area, refreshments and even pop in now and then to make sure you are working hard. All you have to do is bring a potluck item and a project(s) you would like to work on.

Quilt Til You Wilt

“Quilt Til You Wilt”

These evenings continue to be very popular! Come in for an evening of “Fun and Finishing”. Bring in those UFOs and the staff will guide you in finishing them. It’s always a lot more fun to work with other quilters. We’ll have coffee, tea, and hot chocolate on hand and order in supper. Come to one or come to them all. Bring along any project that you want to work on. Call us now to reserve your spot as these sessions fill very quickly. If you would like to use one of our classroom sewing machines please let us know as soon as possible.

Colourwash: Do you want to learn how to strip-piece? Do you want to use your stash to make a beautiful quilt? Do you want to learn about colour values/shades? Stack’n’Whack: Learn the Stack ‘n’ Whack technique to make a wonderful pinwheel quilt that looks like a kaleidoscope. Only two fabrics required. A novelty print or any large/medium print will do. Florals can be beautiful. And a background colour. (not the background of the print.)

Snowball Beginner Quilt: Make a traditional pattern a modern way. This class will accommodate the absolute beginner. You will learn fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, block joining, basting the layers, as well as the basics of machine and hand quilting in the six sessions. Supply list available. Whiskers and Wings

Whiskers and Wings Hallowe’en in the summer. Get a jump start on your Hallowe’en décor. This is a wonderful paper pieced pattern. You can make three different blocks in 3 different sizes. If you’ve always wanted to learn paper piecing this is the project for you or if you are looking for a something fun and different. It takes a little practice and a few pointers but it always works out. Using paper piecing can make your points the pointiest.

Stripey Quilt

Stripey Quilt: If you want to use up all those strips that are left over from previous projects then this is the quilt for you. You will also learn how to “quilt as you go” putting your quilted blocks together with two different colours of sashing, one for each side. We will also talk about how to do a two-colour binding. By the time the day is over, you will have a small quilt that’s already quilted. To finish the project all you’ll need to do is hand sew the second side of the sashings and put the binding on. It’s easy, it’s fast, it’s fun!

Playing with your Jelly Roll: Do you have a jelly roll or any other set of 2 ½” strips sitting in your stash and are you wondering what to do with it? Well, wonder no more. By sewing all those strips together, you can make a multitude of different blocks. All you need is that Jelly Roll, your sewing machine, a cutting mat, ruler and cutter, and your imagination. Come and have some fun creating unique blocks and make a quilt like nobody else’s.

Wistful
Wistful: A great fun way to make a fabulous quilt using those 2 ½ inch strips. You can use a jelly roll or cut your own. It can be scrappy or planned or planned scrappy. Using a common background fabric speeds up the cutting and makes the focal colours sing. You can use ivory, white, black or any other colour as your background to work up this striking pattern.

There’s One in Every Crowd:  An easy fusible appliqué project with a sense of humour, Each block only has two appliqué pieces. A bit of embroidery by hand or machine, some optional embellishment and you are done. Pieced corners to make a secondary jewel box pattern adds some character to these whimsical shapes.

Walking Foot Quilting

Walking Foot Quilting  How do you know where to quilt? Choosing patterns and planning what to do can be easier than you think. Using your walking foot is the easiest way to finish quilting some of those tops we all have. We will discuss threads and tips and tricks. Bring a quilt already basted with pins, thread or spray baste, and we will make a plan for it and get it underway.
